Middle wins bracket title at Boardwalk Classic

The Middle Township boys basketball team won one of this year's most thrilling Boardwalk Basketball Classic games when Relly Wooten's basket with two seconds to go lifted the Panthers to a 59-58 victory. The win gave Middle the Ray Martin Memorial Boys Bracket championship.

Wooten scored on a short jumper in the lane, after teammate Jason Thompson sank a critical three-point shot with 13 seconds to play to bring Middle within a point.

That Middle was even in that predicament was extraordinary. Middle ran out to a 17-point halftime lead, but a 12-0 run to start the fourth quarter by the Mustangs put Mainland in front.

Mike Farrow had 21 points and Thompson finished with 12 for Middle (5-1).

Also today at the BBC, the Middle girls won a consolation game over Vineland, 70-27. Rachel Mooers (19), Danielle Barber (14) and Abby Logan (10) were all in double figures for Middle, which shot a healthy 27 for 57 from the floor.
