Baseball, softball playoff seedings released
The NJSIAA released the official seedings for its 2007 baseball and softball playoff tournaments late Thursday, and three area teams are among the teams that will be vying for South Jersey titles.
In baseball, Middle Township was the only local club to qualify. The Panthers are the seventh seed in Group III and will play at second-seeded West Deptford on Friday, May 25. That should make for an interesting day for Middle because, win or lose, the team will have to fight all that Memorial Day Weekend traffic headed down the shore on its way home. If Middle can spring an upset, the Panthers will play third-seeded Delsea or sixth-seeded Cumberland on Tuesday, May 29.
Two area teams have qualified in softball. Like its baseball team, Middle Township is the seventh seed in Group III. The Lady Panthers will travel to second-seeded Kingsway on Thursday, May 24. A win there would put Middle into a sectional semifinal contest against No. 3 Hammonton or No. 6 Seneca.
The other asrea team to qualify in softball is Wildwood Catholic. The Crusaders are the seventh seed in South Jersey Non-Public B and will travel to second-seeded Gloucester Catholic on Tuesday, May 29. The winner of that game will play No. 3 Mater Dei or No. 6 Bishop Eustace two days later.
