Raffa's uniform number retired
Wildwood Catholic High School boys basketball star Anthony Raffa had his unform number retired Thursday night.
Raffa, who scored 1,893 career points and led the Crusaders to two South Jersey Non-Public B titles, was bestowed the honor at the school's all-sports awards banquet held at the Whitebriar in Avalon.
Raffa, who wore No. 11, averaged more than 30 points per game as a senior and has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University at Albany for next scholastic year.
Wildwood Catholic handed out numerous other awards Thursday night. John Maloy (swimming, tennis) won the school's Most Distinguished Athlete Award for the second straight year and Brian Namoitka (soccer, swimming, tennis) and Tiffany McKenna (cross country, swimming, track) were named the male and female Most Valuable Players, respectively.
Kellianne Gawarzewski (cross country, track), Chris Garriott (corss country, basketball, track) and Patrick Smith (soccer, basketball, baseball) were each given the school's Sportsmanship Awards.
