Boys soccer: Middle claims conference title
The Middle Township boys soccer team earned a share of the Cape-Atlantic National Conference championship with St. Augustine Prep by beating the Hermits, 1-0, Tuesday night in Cape May Court House.
Zach Todd's goal off an assist from Austin Johnson in the 19th minute gave Middle the edge and the Panther defense went on to make that one-goal advantage stand up in a physical game that saw the referee hand out a combined nine yellow cards to the two teams. Scott DeCecco made seven saves for the shutout in goal.
The victory was Middle's first over the Prep since 2000. Middle and St. Augustine share the conference title by virtue of their identical conference records. Each team won all of their conference games but one, splitting with each other as the home side won in the teams' two matchups this fall.
