Field hockey: LCM falls to Collingswood in playoff
The Lower Cape May Regional field hockey team had its season ended Tuesday afternoon with a first-round state playoff loss to Collingswood.
The Lady Tigers (8-4-3) could not mount much of an offense against powerful Collingswood, but its stingy defense kept the team in the game until the final whistle. Collingswood, despite whipping 18 shots at the Lower Cape May goal, managed just one goal, scored 10 minutes into the second half. It wound up as the lone tally as Collingswood advance in the South Jersey Group II playoffs with the 1-0 victory.
Lower goalie Kelsey Gavigan made 12 saves in the loss.
After the game, Lower coach Karen Wadding announced that she is retiring from coaching. Wadding has been in the program for 20 years -- 15 as an assistant and the last five as head coach.
