Crusaders sweep series from Wildwood; playoffs on radio
The Wildwood Catholic boys basketball team wrapped up a disappointing season on a high note Friday night as the Crusaders downed visiting Wildwood, 44-28, in the regular-season finale for both clubs.
Pat Kelly scored 13 points and Clark Hindelang added 11 for Wildwood Catholic. Matt Schiff was the only Wildwood player in double figures with 10 points.
Wildwood Catholic led by eight at the half before Wildwood went on a big run through the third quarter and the early part of the fourth to take a five-point lead. But Wildwood Catholic eventually came back to take a two-point lead when Wildwood big man James Bevans fouled out with 3 1/2 minutes to play. Wildwood Catholic's defense was too strong for Wildwood down the stretch, especially with Bevans out of the game.
The officials REALLY let the kids play, which certainly was to Wildwood Catholic's benefit as the Crusaders bumped, shoved, pushed, etc., Wildwood in the post through the entire game. Does that mean the officiating was poor? Absolutely not. Once Wildwood figured out the referees were going to let them play, the Warriors needed to find a way to push back but did not. Think Cape May Tech might try the same tactics Tuesday night in the state playoff game? You bet!
Also have to mention the extraordinary finish to the junior varsity game. Wildwood led 59-39 with 5 1/2 minutes to play, only to lose in overtime, 64-63. Steve Bolle scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. He hit a pair of free throws with no time left to force OT, then hit the winning three-pointer with 3 seconds to go. Wildwood shot 3 for 19 from the line in the fourth quarter. That's not a misprint -- they actually did shoot 3 for 19.
Here's the tentative playoff broadcast schedule for WCZT-FM 98.7 the Coast:
Monday -- Cinnaminson at Middle Township (Girls Group II), 7 p.m.
Tuesday -- Cape May Tech at Wildwood (Boys Group I), 6 p.m.

Thanks for the web site info. You and Buddy always do such a nice job together and your site allows us to experience every game when we can only be at one. Your radio announcing together is fantastic. Whenever I am forced to listen rather than go to a game, I feel like I'm actually at the game. Nobody does it better than you both. You really know your sports and your athletes!! Keep up the great work and I'll be listening to your away games throughout the playoffs!! Have fun!!
