Matt Szczur sparks 'Nova to playoff victory
Matt Szcur touched the football only five times during Villanova's Football Championship Series (formerly Division I-AA) first-round playoff game agaainst Colgate Saturday afternoon.
He turned three of those touches into touchdowns.
Szczur, a sophomore who recently earned second-team All-Colonial Athlatic Association honors, sparked Villanova in a big way by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. the Lower Cape May Regional graduate later added scores on a four-yard run in the second quarter and a 16-yard reception early in the third quarter as the Wildcats, ranked sixth in the FCS, pranced to a 55-28 victory.
Villanova, which won a playoff game for the first time in six years, travels to Virgnia to take on James Madison in a FCS quarterfinal on Saturday.
