BREAKING NEWS: Anthony Raffa to leave Albany

Former Wildwood Catholic High School basketball star Anthony Raffa will no longer play at the University at Albany, we can finally report tonight.

Raffa confirmed this afternoon that he has informed the Albany men's basketball coaching staff that he plans to transfer. He also said that he has been granted a release from his basketball scholarship by the school's athletic department.

Albany's sports information office did not return multiple messages left by the Wildwood Leader Tuesday morning.

Raffa averaged 9.7 points per game for the Great Danes (15-16) this season. He started 25 of the team's 31 games, missing three due to a toe injury.

Raffa is one of the best high school basketball players produced by a Cape May County school in the last 15 years. He scored close to 1,900 career points and led the Cruaders to back-to-back South Jersey titles in 2006-07.

Raffa said he plans to transfer to another Division I school, preferably one located closer to this area.
