Shane McGrath and Craig Whitehead of the Avalon Beach Patrol teamed to win the Upper Township Six-Mile Bay Race, a six-mile doubles row, Monday night. The race began and ended at the Deauville Inn in Strathmere.

The victory was McGrath's first in the event, but Whitehead's fourth. Whitehead also won with Mike Cras in 1994 and with John Wachter in 2001 and 2002.

Another Avalon crew, Kevin Moore and Erich Wolf, placed second. Fifty-one boats finished the race.
